Meadow Park Academy

Where learning takes root and imagination takes flight

Proud to be part of

Modern Foreign Languages

The learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for the pupils.

Language learning starts in EYFS at Meadow Park Academy where learning and using new vocabulary is a focus. This continues in Key Stage 1 where children continue to progressively acquire, use, and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge organised around age-appropriate topics and themes. They also have the opportunity to learn Makaton signing alongside topic vocabulary.

From Key Stage 2, children have a weekly Spanish lesson to lay the foundations for future foreign language learning at secondary school where they will explore the four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pupils will have the opportunity as part of learning Spanish to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating. Learning a second language will also offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences.
